10,000 Jobs for IT Professionals: Govt

Minister for Information and Science Technology, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi has said that Government is working to explore Information Sector in the State, adding that proposed IT Park,  coming up at Ompora Budgam, would create jobs for 10,000 IT professionals.

The Minister was addressing at a seminar on “Microsoft DreamSpark Yatra-2011, held here today at Kashmir University.  The function was organized by Microsoft Student Partners, Kashmir Chapter, in collaboration with MercyCorps, Srinagar, aimed to create awareness about latest programming design tools and technologies available in global market.

Vice Chancellor, Kashmir University, Prof. Riyaz Punjabi, General Manager and Country Head, Microsoft India, Mr. Moorthy Uppeluri, Director IT, Kashmir University, Dr. Mehraj-ud-Din, Registrar, Kashmir University, Dr. Fayaz Ahmad and Director, MercyCorp, Mr. Usman Ahmad were among prominent present on the occasion.

Appreciating efforts of the students, the Minister said that Government has initiated several measures for boosting IT sector in the State.  He said Government has planned to set up Khidmat Centers across the State, adding 550 such centers have been established out of target of 1150 centers.

He said e-governance is priority of the Government and efforts are on to create basic required infrastructure at block, tehsil and district levels. He said IT sector has vast job potential and advised students to hone their skills to compete at national as well as international levels.

Ruhullah said that Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah is also keen to boost IT sector in the State and want to implement e-governance programme on fast track basis besides setting up of Khidmat centers, particularly in remote and rural areas of the State.

Vice Chancellor while addressing said that University has already established service delivery centers at every college to boost IT sector. He said a campus recruitment rally is expected to be held in the University in month of June to absorb IT professionals. Mentioned some relevant examples, Mr Punjabi asked students to make their mind for establishing groups of software development units rather chasing MNC or Govt jobs.

Moorthy, Dr. Mehraj-ud-Din, Dr. Fayaz Ahmad, and Usman Ahmad also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the potential of IT sector.

Mercy Corp will start Sky Project in Kashmir aimed to bring together brains and means for promotion of IT sector in the State, said the Director Mrcy Corp.
